Le Quy Duong agrees to direct Asian Stage Festival

The young Vietnamese director Le Quy Duong has accepted an invitation from William Huizhu Sun, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Theater Academy and the professional council of the Asian Stage Association, to direct the Asian Stage Festival 2009 in Shanghai, China. The festival is expected to attract over 20 experimental stage troupes from theaters and art universities in Asia and the Pacific.
During the festival the drama entitled “People of the Year 2222” will be introduced for the first time. Scripted by Le Duy Hanh and directed by Le Quy Duong the drama sees participation of Vietnamese and foreign actors such as musician Dominoque Probst from the Paris Conservatory of Music, musician Darrin Verhagen from the Dorobo Music Centre in Australia and choreographer Tony Yap as well as other actors and actresses from Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand and India.

The drama is a story about a husband who makes robots and his wife who is a researcher in cloning. The couple creates a world of robots on the sun and a world of cloned men on the moon, but war erupts between two new worlds with unhappy results for everyone. The couple die and become two pieces of debris falling down to a place on the earth where they are born, in the year of 2222. |
Duong, aged 40, is a graduate from the National Institute of Dramatic Arts and one of Vietnam’s most successful directors. He has won many national and international prizes for his works and has successfully directed plays at international art festivals held in Australia and in Vietnam. His drama, “Huong River’s Legend,” presented at the Hue Festival 2008 set a record in the Vietnam Record Book.
